Creativity is not a within-property of a person but rather a relational process. We are conducting a series of studies that capture and explore the interaction between the person and the physical world within and through which new ideas take shape. Extending the bounds of the cognitive ecosystem beyond the classic boundaries considered by traditional cognitivist ideas allows us to explore not only the scaffolding role of the external world but also its agency as it not only triggers liminal proto solutions to classic insight tasks but also allows the person to solves those tasks with little planning or internally generated schemas.
